70 Series - FW190 72.5% (Concept)

Development of the Proof-of-Concept Began in March 2000

HISTORY:

Development of a 65% began in Iowa with Roger Bocox and Gerald Clark in March of 2000 as they were jointly building a 50% WAR FW190 together.  Roger decided to CAD-up the parts as they went along.  The idea of scaling-up the parts to a larger size to accommodate a larger pilot was an obvious next step.

Roger managed to get a large number of the drawings done and sent the drawings to us for review and possibly fabricate some of the parts.

We both worked on the plans for a short time but the project was eventually shelved for other projects.

Recently, the FW190 project was resurrected when more volunteers with solid modeling experience came online.

NOTES:

  • The scale of the Proof-Of-Concept is NOT to the Final-Scale.  76% is a rough estimate until a study can be done to fully determine if the selected engine will fit this scale.  The targeted engine will be the Rotec R3600.

  • Original concept of this aircraft was to be a scaled up version of the 50% WAR corsair for larger pilots that cannot fit in the cockpit of a standard WAR design.

  • The planned aircraft:

    • Target Engine is the Rotec R3600

    • Single Passenger

  • Wooden inner structure with plywood formers.

  • Construction: Foam and fiberglass   **Tentative** a monocouque design is also being considered.

  • Investment: N/A

  • Status:  Re-Opened as of AirVenture 2010 (July 2010)

UPDATES
2010-12-26     72% FW190 Project

After much consideration, the Final-Scale of the new design will be 72½% which reslut in a wingspan of roughly 25 feet. We targeted the Rotec R3600 engine for this project, but we had to scale higher so we could accomodate the pilot with the least amount of distortion to the fuselage.

All though the wing was designed with the actual airfoils used in the real bird, the airfoil we will used is still undecided. We will add pictures of the modeled wing at a later time.

Facility News UPDATE:  The est. costs on a new building were far too out of my reach and I'm not willing to borrow $300,000.   So we will be reconsidering renting again if we can find something reasonable.

Facility Update! I contacted my builder today and he's telling me that the bid package and designs will be done this week for the new facility.

Into storage we go! It was getting clear to us the current facility was getting too small and our lease was at an end.   So we moved into a storage facility until we could build or find a larger place to rent.
